It was 1995 and already over a decade of working with patients in medical centers, observing injuries and illnesses through imaging diagnostic procedures, and instructing at Universities that I began questioning why so many people did not seem healthier for all the advancements in technology which surrounded me. When patients arrive at medical centers, it's because something has failed them. While many patients needed to be there, it was clear that many people could have prevented being there as well.
We can Prevent many injuries & illnesses and we can Learn to heal ourselves.....
In 1999, I followed my heart, I followed my intuition and I followed my maps to locate the most amazing place of learning, and of personal development and healing. South Wind Farm, in a historic farming community in Silk Hope, NC about 30 miles south of Chapel Hill, gives a home to a glass A frame schoolhouse for the amazing Body Therapy Institute, located on a small portion of its 150 acres of land. This property holds an abundant energy of purpose, passion and nature's natural symphony of the most beautiful sounds. What wasn't present were the sounds of interstates, high pressured schedules, ticking of clocks, or the clashing of thoughts of my mind's daily expectations . The only sounds present were the sounds of the wind blowing through the trees, the songs of birds and the shuffling around of wildlife, the sound of my heartbeats and breath, and the natural harmony of peace and purpose. What a wonderful place to learn and grow as a holistic , mind-body therapist.
Every day, I realize how fortunate I was to have been in the right place and at the right time and for having the opportunity to encounter this complete life changing experience with some of the most experienced and embodied healing and somatic bodywork practitioners and teachers in the field. Knowing how to let go and becoming aware of where we are stuck allows the space and the confidence which creates the support for the power to heal ourselves .
Who are my clients? Most of my clients present with pain, stiffness and movement constriction, stress and associated illnesses: physical, emotional, energetic. They are in need of relaxation, space and letting go of what no longer serves their best selves.
My intention is that my clients leave with the tools they need to be confidently empowered by their very own intuition to create space and healing for their own life's journey.
My therapeutic session combines nearly 25 years of massage and bodywork practice, 10 years of teaching students in diagnostic healthcare, many years with adult learners in elective health classes, mental health counseling and life coaching.
Utilizing classic techniques of Swedish Massage and Deep Tissue massage, I can modify sessions to accommodate light touch or deeper pressure. Trigger-point and myeofascial release therapy can be used to release muscle tension and pain. Often, stretching and joint movements support greater results as does the use of hydrotherapy, hot stones, and breathing techniques.
In addition, I am degreed as a Counselor, MA, with a strong background in Psychology (BA) and doctoral level education in I/O Psychology where I have supported healthy organizations through cultural reorganizations (Denison Model) , stress reduction in-services, health coaching- and facilitating holistic training through the a multi-dimensional wellness model, career development and alignment, and balanced process improvement and positive organizational change management and development through interactive coaching models.
I look forward to working with you.
